Tracing Gantry
- Simulates a motion control application such as laser cutting and glue dispensing
- 3 types of interpolation and hence motion, are demonstrated:
- linear interpolation for straight lines
- circular interpolation for arcs
- cubic spline interpolation for complex shapes
- The plate mounted on the gantry has shapes engraved
- A drill bit is sunk into the grooves of the engraving, and it traces out the shapes
- If the motion is not precise, the drill bit will break
- The trajectories has sharp corners
- 30 micron repeatability running with a smooth motion at velocity of 80 mm/s
- Capable of moving at higher speeds of 0.1 – 0.5m/s for trajectories with no sharp corners
